Peru Will Host 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship

Peru Will Host 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship

California, USA – September 5th, 2025

Today, the International Surfing Association (ISA) announced that the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship (WJSC) will be held at the historic location of Punta Rocas, Peru, December 5-14, 2025.

Peru was the host to one of the most important moments in surfing’s Olympic journey, the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Punta Rocas will again see the best surfers from throughout the Americas compete in the upcoming Pan Am Games in Lima 2027.

The 21st edition of the championship will be the second time for Peru to host the world’s best junior surfers. In 2011, a 16-year-old Filipe Toledo (BRA) added a World Champion title to his name for the first time, alongside Peru’s own Cristobal de Col (PER) winning the gold medal for the Under 18 division.

Peru’s long history with the ISA dates back to the second-ever World Surfing Championships in 1965. Hosting two further World Surfing Games, in 2010 and 2014, Peru also debuted two of the ISA’s pinnacle World Championship series – the first World  Longboard Championship, in 2013, and the first two editions of the World SUP and Paddleboard Championship, in 2012 and 2013.

Of the 71 athletes that have surfed in the Olympic Games, 59 previously participated in the WJSC. 32 of those surfers won WJSC medals, proving this prestigious event to be an essential stepping stone to Olympic success. Additionally, 14 Olympic surfers are ISA World Junior Champions, including Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks (USA), Olympic Silver Medalist Tatiana Weston-Webb (BRA), and Olympic Bronze Medalists Gabriel Medina (BRA) and Owen Wright (AUS).” – ISA Surf.
